Free H1N1 Vaccines Provided by UCLA School of Nursing & LA County Public Health Department at PATH

March 2010

On Thursday, March 4th, 2010, students from the UCLA School of Nursing administered free H1N1 vaccinations to PATH's clients, staff and local community members. They also provided healthy living tips and handed out free cookies to those who received vaccinations. Vaccinations were provided by the Los Angeles County Public Health Department.

Lack of health care, sanitation, and shelter increases the risk of flu and sickness among people who are living on the streets of Los Angeles. With nearly 50,000 homeless people in the region, the threat of a flu epidemic is real.

“Homelessness is a health issue,” said Carlos Gonzalez, a program director for PATH. “Vaccinating people on the streets helps keep them healthy.”

Many thanks to the nurses who volunteered their time to administer vaccines, and to the Los Angeles County Public Health Department for providing the vaccinations free of charge!
