PATH is a family of agencies working together to end homelessness for individuals, families, and communities throughout California. We strive to do this by prioritizing housing while providing customized supportive services for people in need. Our agencies each address homelessness in a different way—supportive services, permanent housing development, support for homeless families, and community engagement—all of which ultimately help the people we serve make it home.
It all started with a letter,
PATH has been serving people experiencing homelessness since 1984.
It all started with a letter, written by Claire and Rev. Charles Orr, calling for the community to address the ever-increasing issue of homelessness.
In response, on the night of December 8, 1983, approximately 60 people gathered together to figure out how to help people who were homeless in their neighborhoods.
On that night, PATH was born.
The group started out distributing food and clothing to people living on the streets. Now, over thirty years later, we have over 20 locations throughout California.
We developed the groundbreaking PATH Mall, which makes accessing homeless services easier by bringing together several providers in one central location.
We have become the largest provider of rapid re-housing services, so critical in these difficult times, in the State of California. We have more than 1,000 units of permanent supportive housing either completed or in our development pipeline.
And, most importantly, we serve thousands of homeless neighbors every single year.
