There are 51,340 people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles, according to the 2011 Los Angeles County Homeless Count.
The statistics are alarming. But because homelessness has existed for so long, and is so prevalent, it has unfortunately become an accepted reality rather than a social issue requiring immediate attention.
TAKE ACTION
People must first be educated before they can feel moved to take action. October is dedicated to Homelessness Awareness Month, a month-long campaign focused on promoting education and action to end homelessness for people and communities.
A toolkit will be distributed in October to provide information and materials to prepare individuals to participate in this campaign.
