PATH - RESPONSE TO HOMELESSNESS

Care for Homelessness Homeless Facts PATH's Programmatic Response
Substance Abuse 66% deal with substance abuse We work with Action Rehab Center, CLARE Foundation, and the Department of Alchohol and Drug Rehabilitation provide a full-service substance abuse program at the Regional Homeless Center and at our site in West Los Angeles
Mental Illness Mental Illness 39% are mentally ill The Department of Mental Health provides three case managers at our Access Center and will set up a large Mental Health Clinic in our Regional Homeless Center. We provide Street Outreach teams to work with the homeless on the streets
Unemployment or Under-Employment 44% have had recent paid work. Average Salary: $367 per month. We provide five full-service PATHFinders Job Centers throughout the country. Our job centers emphasize full-time, permanent employment. We do not encourage part-time or temporary work.
Health Issues 46% have or had a chronic/infectious health problem We partner with USC to provide a free medical clinic in our Regional Homeless Center. We are also one of a few providers for homeless people with HIV/AIDS. We partner with HOPWA and OAPP.
Untrained Veterans 33% are Veterans We work with the Department of Labor to provide employment services for homeless veterans.
Lack of Affordable Housing 46% leave their home city to find housing an/or employment We provide a total of 130 transitional housing beds in Hollywood and West Los Angeles for preparation into affordable housing. We also provide affordable housing referals.
Lack of Education 38% do not have a high school diploma We partner with the Hollywood Adult School to provide Basic Skills/ GED / Learning Center at our Regional Homeless Center.
Emancipated Youth 27% had lived in foster care After age 18, foster youth are released to independent living. Our Hollywood and West Hollywood Program provides housing and job training for those who end up homeless.
Childhood Poverty 21% were homeless as a child We provide a PATHFamilies Center in the Regional Homeless Center. This center will house 10 homeless families.
Incarcerated Inmates Released 49% spent time in jail After release from jail, many inmates are not trained for independent living. We work with the Sheriff's Department and Parole Department to provide case management and after-care.
Legal Problems Minor infractions, renter's rights, custody issues, etc. We work with the Homeless Court movement to provide a homeless court in our Regional Center.
